Paduana Factory restoration

About the Project

The former Paduana factory, industrial complex in Ontinyent, will be transformed in a residential complex of 200 apartments during the next years. The first stage is the renovation / rehabilitation of the main building, a building of the early twentieth century whose facade is protected. The next stages foresee the occupation of the remaining land with different housing developments.

The facade of the main Paduana factory building has an apparently symmetrical composition. The ground floor of this long façade is assigned for commercial purposes. Its main entrance will become a central passage connecting the main square with the new residential complex located behind the main building.

The standard floor in the main building is composed of a set of four different housing typologies. The pace of existing window openings is very dominant when subdividing the interior spaces. Four stairways and lifts lead access to 8 apartments per floor. All the apartments have the living-dining room and kitchen in the façade overlooking the main square. The rear facade , where bedrooms are placed is a new construction with a modest composition, avoiding competition with the main facade. It has a simple rhythm of vertical windows corresponding to the apartment’s distribution.
